OVERSPEED HOCKEY HOLIDAY CLASSIC
We're very excited to announce the first annual OverSpeed Hockey Holiday Classic midget tournament this December 10, 11, and 12 here in Rhode Island.
The tournament will kick off the annual New England Prep School Christmas/Holiday Tournament week — the most heavily scouted week in New England and a regular stop for NHL, NCAA, USHL, NAHL, CHL, EHL, and USPHL scouts from near and far.
This year’s event will feature three divisions at the U-18, U-16 and U-15 levels, with each team guaranteed four games. Round robin games will take place on the 10th and 11th, with placement and championship games taking place on Sunday the 12th. All championship games will take place at Providence College.
We are excited to be able to host this event at Providence College’s Schneider Arena and Mount Saint Charles Academy’s Adelard Arena, with additional games at Smithfield Municipal Ice Rink.
We’d like to thank Mount Saint Charles Hockey Academy and Providence College for their great hospitality and cooperation to allow us to bring an event of this national caliber to the Ocean State.
“We are truly excited to be able to host an event of this stature here in Rhode Island. We have been working on this for a couple of years so we are very happy it is coming to fruition. Our goal was to keep it small and targeted to elite organizations, run by good people we know and trust. To be able to have teams of this level, from all over the United States here in the Ocean State is awesome. We are proud to work with our partners at Mount Saint Charles and Providence College to make this happen.”
—OverSpeed Hockey Director and former NHL Scouting Director Toby O’Brien
“We are looking forward to having such great programs from all over the country attending the OverSpeed Hockey Holiday Classic in December. With the timing of this event relating to college holiday breaks as well as kicking off the prep school holiday tournament and showcase week, we’re sure it will bring out junior, college, and NHL scouts from all over. We’re excited to drop the puck for what should be an outstanding weekend of hockey at Mount Saint Charles and Providence College!”
—Matt Plante, Co-Director Mount Saint Charles Hockey Academy
“The Windy City Storm is definitely looking forward to participating in the OverSpeed Hockey Holiday Classic. Player development is at the forefront of our mission and the quality of competition and exposure at the Holiday Classic will be phenomenal. We’re excited to compete against all of the organizations coming to this tournament and give our players this first-class experience.”
—Ryan Ward, Director of the Windy City Storm (formerly the Chicago Young Americans)
In addition to great midget hockey, all the teams will be able to take in some of the best college hockey in the nation as the Princeton University Tigers face off against the Providence College Friars on December 10 and 11.
“It is truly about the young players and providing top notch experiences to them through the game of hockey — with all the college hockey at the Division I, Division III and ACHA levels so close to us, this event just made sense to do. We can’t thank everyone enough who is taking part in what we hope will become a staple event in years to come.”
